On the morning of September 13, 2022, Dongguan University of Technology (DGUT) and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) held an online agreement signing ceremony for the international joint doctoral training program. Yang Minlin, Vice President of DGUT, and Leonardo Lomeli, Secretary General of UNAM, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective universities. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Cheng Faliang, the Director of the Graduate Studies, Wang Jihui, the Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange, and relevant DGUT staff, as well as Manuel Torres, the Dean of the Graduate School, Francisco Trigo, the Director of the Foreign Affairs Department and relevant project leaders of UNAM.

On behalf of DGUT, Cheng Faliang gave a welcome address. He expressed his excitement about working with the UNAM to develop outstanding doctoral students who have an international perspective and awareness. He also expressed his hope that the two universities' academic advisors could conduct more intensive scientific research exchanges and cooperation to produce high-quality academic achievements.

Yang Minlin emphasized that 2022 would mark the 50th anniversary of the start of diplomatic relations between China and Mexico and that DGUT has placed a high priority on collaboration with institutions in Latin America in recent years. He hoped to use this joint doctoral training project as a chance and a bridge to advance mutual trust, advance exchanges with UNAM, deepen cooperation in talent development, teacher exchanges, discipline construction, scientific and technological innovation, achievement transformation, and other fields, and jointly promote cooperation and development between China and Mexico in the higher education sector.

Leonardo Lomeli emphasized that UNAM has established a research center in China that maintains close relations with several universities and has actively encouraged academic cooperation and exchange between the two nations. According to Leonardo Lomeli, the signing of the agreement for the international joint doctoral training project with DGUT signifies the official implementation of the collaboration between the two universities in joint doctoral training and is crucial for achieving goals like the development of global talent, collaboration in scientific research, and international cultural exchange.

Following the University of Auckland, the University of Nottingham, the University of New South Wales, and other well-known universities around the world, UNAM is the seventh university that DGUT is collaborating with for an international joint doctoral program. The close relationship between DGUT and UNAM will help DGUT flourish quickly in the future in terms of building disciplines and developing talent.
