H.M. King Tupou VI and his delegation visited DGUT

His Majesty King Tupou VI of the Kingdom of Tonga paid a state visit to China from February 28 to March 8 at the invitation of Chinese President XI Jinping. The visit of H.M. King Tupou VI is an important progress for the 20th anniversary of two countries diplomatic relations.

On March 6, 2018, H.M. King Tupou VI and his wife Queen Nanasipau’u visited Dongguan University of Technology. H.M. King Tupou VI presented a souvenir crafted with Map of Kingdom of Tonga and inspected blessings for the University.





On behalf of all faculty members and students, Dr. CHENG Hongbo, Secretary of CPC of DGUT, expressed our warmest welcome and gratitude for the visit of H.M. King Tupou VI and his high delegations. Dr. CHENG presented an University badge and Guangdong embroidery silk scarf for H.M. King and Queen.






Dr. LI Lin, Deputy Sectary of CPC of DGUT & President, gave a prestation to the guests about the overall development of the University.






On December, 2017, Dr. CHENG led a delegation to visit Tonga and Australia. One of the priorities on the agenda was to meet with the Tongan Ministry of Education and introduce DGUT international students enrollment plans. In order to strengthen the educational and cultural exchange between Dongguan and Tonga, DGUT decides to set up a special scholarship for Tongan students to study in the University, consisting of 5 full scholarship quotas (including one-year tuition, accommodation expense, one round-trip transportation expense, and a monthly 1,500 RMB living allowance for each student).

H.M. King Tupou VI stated that (DGUT) “A beautiful university and the best of good future and a prosperous future for the University and the students.” He also express thankful for the establishment of scholarships for Tonga students.





After the meeting, H.M. King Tupou VI and his delegation visited Digital Equipment Engineering Training Center and witnessed the accomplishment of innovation from DGUT faculty and students. The 3D printing team presented a 3D printed Chinese Knot to the distinguished guests.

Our university has been actively carrying out multi-channel, multi-layer and all-dimensional international exchanges and cooperation. It has established cooperative relationships with 42 universities and research institutes in 21 countries and regions including the United States and Canada. Since 2016, our university has started recruiting international students. Currently, DGUT has successively recruited 118 foreign students from 16 countries, most of whom come from the Belt and Road initiative countries and international sister cities of Dongguan.

Wang Baodong, Chinese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Tonga; Mr. Yan Hualong, Councellor of the Protocol Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Li Jian, Deputy Director Foreign Affairs Office, People’s Government of Guangdong Province; Dr. Yang Minlin, Vice President of DGUT; Ms. Xie Yuhua, Director of Dongguan Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau of Dongguan Municipal People’s Government and other delegations attended the meeting.

As for Kingdom of Tonga, H.E. Semisi Sika, H.E. Viela Tupou, H.E. Tauaika Utaatu, Kilisitian Tuaimei’api and other delegations attended the event.
